Modern horizontal slat fence on a white stucco CMU wall — in our hometown

A La Puente corner lot gets the full modern treatment: white stucco block wall and pilasters, black powder-coated horizontal slat panels, and a matching walk gate — built by Apexguard Fence, minutes from our own yard.

The project

This corner-lot home in La Puente wanted what more and more of our customers ask for: the modern two-material front — a low CMU block wall and pilasters finished in smooth white stucco, with black powder-coated horizontal slat panels spanning between them. The contrast does the design work: bright white masonry, crisp black lines, and enough openness between the slats to keep light and sightlines while still defining and securing the yard.

Because it's a corner property, the wall runs along both street frontages — which means the fence is effectively the house's facade from two directions. Panel spacing, pilaster rhythm, and cap lines had to stay consistent around the corner, and they do. A matching horizontal-slat walk gate is already hung between two pilasters, built from the same slat stock so the whole frontage reads as one design.

Phase 2 is coming. The matching driveway gate and the side fencing are next on this property — same black slat design, built as one system with the wall. We'll update this page with the finished photos.

Why CMU + horizontal slats works

A block wall alone reads heavy; a metal fence alone can read thin. Together they balance: the stucco CMU wall gives permanence, noise reduction, and a finished base that matches the house, while the horizontal slats keep the build light, modern, and airy on top. The masonry takes the ground contact — where wood fences rot and iron pickets rust first — so the metal never touches soil, and the whole assembly is effectively maintenance-free: rinse the stucco, done.

It's also the style that matches where Southern California residential design is going — the same clean horizontal language as modern rebuilds across the San Gabriel Valley. We price the wall portion from about $95 per linear foot with panels and gates quoted on top; you can ballpark your own project with the online estimate (choose CMU / Brick Wall) and confirm it with a free on-site measurement.

Project FAQ

What is a horizontal slat fence on a CMU wall?

It's a two-material build: a CMU (concrete block) knee wall and pilasters finished in stucco, with powder-coated metal horizontal slat panels mounted between the pilasters. On this La Puente project the wall and pilasters are smooth white stucco and the slats are black, giving a clean, modern contrast that also handles street noise and security better than a fence alone.

How much does a CMU wall with horizontal metal fence panels cost?

Combination CMU-and-metal builds are quoted per project because the block wall, stucco finish, footings, pilaster count, and panel length all vary. As a planning range, the CMU/stucco wall portion typically runs about $95 per linear foot and up, with the metal slat panels and gates priced on top. We give a firm written quote after a free on-site measurement.

Do you build matching driveway gates for this style?

Yes. This project already includes a matching horizontal-slat walk gate, and a driveway gate plus side fencing are being built as the next phase — the same black slat design, manual or automated. We build the wall, panels, and all gates as one system so everything matches.
