4 ft ornamental iron on a block wall — with a sliding gate to match

A Baldwin Park corner lot gets the classic SoCal frontage done right: tan split-face block wall and pillars, 4 ft ornamental wrought iron with fleur-de-lis finials and twisted pickets, and a matching sliding driveway gate with a decorative medallion.

The build: ornamental iron over split-face block, wrapping the corner and running the full frontage — Baldwin Park, CA.

The project

This Baldwin Park home wanted the frontage that defines Southern California streets when it's done properly: a block wall with ornamental iron on top. We built the tan split-face CMU wall and pillars, then set 4 ft ornamental wrought iron panels above — fleur-de-lis finials on every picket, twisted (spiral) pickets alternating through each bay, all welded and powder-coated black.

The driveway got the same treatment in motion: a sliding gate on a galvanized V-track, carrying the same finials and twisted pickets plus a decorative center medallion, so the entire frontage — wall, fence, and gate — reads as one design. Every panel was fabricated from our own standard drawing set and fitted to the wall on site.

Why block wall + ornamental iron works

The block wall handles what masonry does best — permanence, a finished base, and zero ground-line rot — while the iron above keeps the frontage open, secure, and decorative. At 4 ft over the wall, the combined height defines the property line clearly without boxing in the yard, and the ornamental details (finials, twists, medallion) turn a security feature into curb appeal. It's also the practical choice on Baldwin Park's flat, established lots, where this style matches the neighborhood while quietly outclassing the aging chain link next door.

Block wall frontage typically runs about $95 per linear foot and up with the iron priced on top; a standard iron fence alone runs about $50–$100 per linear foot. Ballpark yours with the online estimate (choose CMU / Brick Wall or Wrought Iron) and confirm with a free on-site measurement.

Project FAQ

What is an ornamental iron fence on a block wall?

It's the classic Southern California two-material frontage: a CMU block wall and pillars with decorative wrought iron panels mounted on top or between them. On this Baldwin Park project we set 4 ft ornamental iron — fleur-de-lis finials, twisted pickets, and a decorative center medallion on the gate — over a tan split-face block wall, so the masonry gives permanence and the iron gives style and security.

How much does ornamental iron on a block wall cost?

The block wall portion typically runs about $95 per linear foot and up, with the ornamental iron panels priced on top — decorative details like fleur-de-lis finials, twisted pickets, and medallions add modestly to a standard iron price of about $50 to $100 per linear foot. Gates are priced per opening. We give a firm written quote after a free on-site measurement.

Can a sliding driveway gate match an ornamental fence?

Yes. On this Baldwin Park project the sliding driveway gate rolls on a galvanized V-track and carries the same twisted pickets and finials as the fence, plus a decorative center medallion — one design across the whole frontage. Sliding gates suit driveways where a swing gate won't fit, and can be automated with an operator, keypad, or remotes.
